SALES & MARKETING MANAGER
Job Type: Full-time, remote (via Slack, Email, and voice or video chat), working hours roughly 9 am – 5 pm ET with some flexibility
Status: [HIRING]
Seven Seas is looking to hire a manager with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills to oversee several marketing employees and strengthen book sales for the company: to launch new titles, promote our backlist, acquire new readers, and sustain audience retention. An ideal candidate has both management skills and an experienced background in marketing, especially in the publishing industry (manga/light novel background preferred).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with editorial, production, administrative, and marketing staff to build our twice-yearly catalogs, including research into new titles, writing TI/tip sheets and sell sheets, oversight of metadata, and processing/organization of other materials such as covers and sample pages; oversee updates and maintenance of the same materials throughout the year.
- Be a primary liaison between Seven Seas and our distributor (Penguin Random House/PRH) for both larger strategy and detailed oversight of our catalog–will include regular sales meetings, discussion of growth areas, and periodic verbal and visual presentations such as in Powerpoint.
- Help analyze and determine pub goals and print runs.
- Work directly or indirectly with various retailer contacts and online portals in order to maximize sales in different channels, including oversight of co-ops.
- Effectively work in a unionized environment where you will be part of the Management team and required to adhere to a collective bargaining agreement’s provisions affecting staff terms and conditions of employment.
- Make schedules, plans, and assignments for marketing staff, especially licensing events, big releases, special promotions, and giveaways; maintain both an internal calendar and run regular meetings.
- Oversee and assist marketing staff in their duties, including regularly checking their projects and giving or attaining approval–will include some writing and copyediting/proofreading of press releases, social media copy, newsletters, surveys, and other marketing materials.
- Help design, execute, and analyze advertising campaigns and other promotional campaigns or surveys.
- Along with marketing staff, send out ARCs (advanced reader copies) and maintain communication with reviewers and influencers.
- Assist in occasional convention duties, such as drafting/designing presentations and running panels and related licensing announcements.
- Help manage the first-party GOMANGA online store and its promotions.
- Execute various metadata duties as needed on websites, databases, etc.
- Work on other promotional projects or reports as needed.
- Perform additional management and marketing tasks as needed.
- Help research and spearhead new ways to expand sales.
Requirements:
- 3 or more years of experience working in the publishing industry (marketing) required. Specific experience working with manga/light novels or graphic novels strongly preferred.
- 2 or more years of managerial experience required; experience in a remote work setting preferred.
- Excellent English communication skills and people skills.
- A strong internet connection for processing and transferring large files.
- Some proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Powerpoint.
- Reasonably comfortable working with spreadsheets and databases (with training).
- Some proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, such as Photoshop and InDesign, is preferred.
- Must love the comics medium and be familiar with English translated editions of books from Seven Seas and other publishers.
Salary range: $60,000 – $70,000 a year, depending on experience.
