Seven Seas Entertainment is thrilled to announce the license acquisition of the manga Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey (known as Kakukaku Shikajika in Japanese) by Akiko Higashimura, the award-winning autobiography about the creator of Tokyo Tarareba Girls and Princess Jellyfish!
High schooler Akiko has big plans to become a popular mangaka before she even graduates, but she needs to get much better at drawing if she ever wants to reach her goal. Looking for an easy fix, she signs up for an art class, thinking all her problems will soon be solved. She’s in for a surprise: her new instructor is a sword-wielding taskmaster who doesn’t care about manga one bit. But maybe this unconventional art teacher is just what she needs to realize her dreams!
“We’re so pleased to bring this critically acclaimed manga to the West,” says Seven Seas Publisher Jason DeAngelis. “For all our readers who have ever dreamed of creating their own comics, this is a down-to-earth story by an adored creator that may inspire others to take that first step right alongside her.”
Seven Seas will publish the manga Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey for the first time in North America as single volume editions in a large trim size. Volume 1 will be released on May 21, 2019 for $13.99 USA / $16.99 CAN.
